Caretakers of T83

Brad and Jane Deckert are the devoted caretakers of T83 — one of the last remaining TBM Avengers still flying today, proudly hangared in Peru, IL. Their passion runs deep, not just for the aircraft, but for the living history it represents. This is the beginning of a larger story — one that spans generations, honors heroes, and celebrates the enduring spirit of aviation. Centered around the iconic TBM Avenger, it’s a story of sacrifice, legacy, and the remarkable people who keep these historic warbirds flying.

Introduction

Inspired by the patriotic displays of the annual TBM Avenger Reunion Airshow in Peru, IL and the TBM community's tireless commitment to preserving their historic aircraft, our team aimed to explore the planes and the people behind them.

Process

Before ever pressing record, our team put great care into research - into not only the story of the TBM Avenger itself, but also Brad and Jane’s own story. The preparation showed with a successful interview that was both visually engaging and of great substance. From there, the storytelling truly took shape in the editing room with the tall task of turning 4 hours of interview footage into a 2 minute sizzle reel capable of grabbing audience’s attention. Achieving this required carefully combining a mix of modern day documentary footage, archival and historical photographs/video clips, and a blend of audio that drove the story forward while immersing the audience.

Idea

Our team set out to capture the significance and history of these planes while telling the story of those who tirelessly work to preserve these pieces of history. Because Brad is known around the warbird community as Mr. TBM, we knew he’d be a great story to begin with.
